Martial Arts Equipment Most of the traditional Martial Arts weapons come from the Okinawan family of weapons. These all evolved out of traditional farming implements and began to be trained with as weapons while Okinawa was under military occupation and the carrying of swords was banned, though there is evidence that the use of some of these weapons began in China. The most commonly used are the bo staff, sais, tonfa, kama, and nunchaku, though there are several other less common weapons in the same family.
