Bokken and Shinai
Bokken and shinai are both types of wooden swords that have traditionally been used as training weapons in Japanese martial arts. The primary difference between the two is that bokken are made out of a single piece of wood, while shinai are made out of four slats of bamboo held together by leather fitting, making it more flexible and less able to cause injury. Both bokken and shinai are used in modern kendo.
